The world's tallest building to be: Burj Dubai - 10 interesting things about it

Burj Dubai, the building in progress that you see in the picture I took of it recently, is rapidly on its way to become the world's tallest building. It already has broken the world record for having the highest number of floors in the world - 120 and going strong...

Here are 10 interesting things that will go into the making of Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building to be:
  1. The estimated building cost is US$ 1 billion

  2. The first Armani hotel in the world will open its doors to patrons in Burj Dubai

  3. The concrete used (excluding foundation) would be equal to the weight of 100,000 elephants

  4. The observatory elevators in the building will move at a stunning speed of 18 metres per second (40 mph) - fastest in the world

  5. The building service/fireman's elevator will have a capacity of 5500 kg
  6. The tip of the spire will be visible from 60 miles away (will be an easy to locate address, I guess)

  7. The highest publicly accessible observatory more than 400 metres above ground will give visitors a bird's eye view from Burj Dubai

  8. Burj Dubai will house 30,000 homes

  9. And... 800 private apartments... (hmmm)

  10. Peak electricity demand of the tower is estimated to be similar to 360,000 bulbs of 100 watt each... hoping that there would be some environmentally friendly way of generating all that power.

You can check out more about Burj Dubai on its website at http://www.burjdubai.com/

Or, if you are visiting the UAE some time, maybe we could check out one of the coffee shops in it together :-)
